Vidahost - serving over 400,000 page impressions a day for The Sinner
LiveSoc

Livesoc is the Live Music Society... they aim to support and organise live (non-classical) music in St Andrews. By joining the society you are entering your details onto a contact list that allows you to get in touch with all the other musicians in St.Andrews. As a member you can also hire the Livesoc drumkit for free, and the PA system for a reduced price. It is a very friendly and welcoming society, and can offer advice on everything from what amp or guitar to buy, to the best way to form a band. You want to organise a pub gig? No problem, speak to the Vice-President (Pubs). Want to organise a union gig? No problem, speak to the Vice-President (Union). Want to send a "drummer wanted" email to every member? Speak to the Secretary. You get the idea.

The society also holds regular events during term time:

THE JAMNIGHT
Held every second Wednesday in Aikmans Bar on Bell St, the jamnight is the perfect way to get involved with the society. Just turn up and watch people making fools out of themselves on stage, or if you want to have a go just ask around for a committee member and they'll find a slot for you (you don't have to arrange it in advance), and even find other people who know the chords to jam with you!. You can bring your own instruments, or if you ask nicely there's always some lying around that you can borrow. So there you have it. Aikmans also stocks the best selection of European beers (like Hoegaarden) in town so you have no excuse for not turning up.
And don't worry about turning up on your own if your friends all want to do something else... when I first went I went on my own... that was in Feb... by April I was on the next years committee. We're always looking for new people to come along so you'll always find people coming over to talk to you and engage you in conversation about whether Marshalls are better than Mesas and so forth...

THE UNION GIGS
Restarted this year (2003-2004) the Union gigs will take place every fourth Tuesday in the Beer Bar (off to the side of venue 1) in the Union. Each gig will have 3 (rock orientated) bands, and will be a partnership (hopefully) between most of the other St Andrews music societies and Livesoc. The venue should be packed if things go well, so if you like music this may be the place to be once a month during term time.
