Enjoy live music? Want to hire some DJ equipment for your hall ball? Need someone to help set up your event? Ever visit the phenomenon that is The Bop? Well – the Ents Crew have a hand in providing all these things, and what’s more… you can help too!

What We Do

The Ents (Entertainments) Crew is a group of students who regularly volunteer to make sure a wide variety of events run smoothly in order for everyone else to have the best possible time they can. We can set-up, run or simply provide technical support for all events within the Student Association Building. We take care of sound (CDs or live bands) and lighting (indoor or outdoor), DJing, artist liaison, rigging, general day-to-day maintenance of our kit and so much more.

You do not need to have previous experience in order to become a member of Ents – we have a balance of those who learned bits and pieces at school, to the absolute beginners. In next to no time you will be able to set up the twice-weekly bop almost single-handedly! Furthermore, it’s an ideal route to being involved in other student activities such as theatre, charities, dance or music.

How We Work

Ultimately under the leadership of the Director of Events & Services, Ents crew volunteer to take on, or simply help with events at our weekly meetings and we are always on the look out for new members! Organisation of the crew and events are often, but not always, taken on by one of our conveners. The SSC Entertainments Officer oversees the allocation of crew to events whilst the DJ Convener ensures every event requiring a DJ has one. There are also two Technical Co-ordinators who are the ‘go-to’ people for any equipment related queries. These positions are awarded by interview by the Convener Selection Committee each year.
