University of St Andrews Jewish Society (JSoc)
St Andrews JSoc is a JSoc with a difference. With over 75 members, we offer our students the opportunity to not only celebrate the traditional cultures and festivals of Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Chanukah etc, but also the chance to meet other Jewish students at regional events (such as the Highland weekend) alongside the opportunities to learn more about Judaism and Israel in regular educational discussion groups. Likewise, annual highlights include a visit to foreign Jewish student communities (Ireland and Prague in previous years) as well as participating in the national Burns Ball in Edinburgh. This year, we also intend to have top class Political speakers as well as participating in more events then ever previously experienced, within St Andrews JSoc...
No other JSoc offers you such a varied Jewish lifestyle - from a fortnightly traditional Friday night dinner, to numerous Beach parties and BBQs!!! The JSoc in 2008-2009 is in fact the largest JSoc ever in St Andrews, and one of the largest is Scotland and North England. This now allows us to put on even bigger events to help maximise your experiences!
