The Just So Society is St Andrews Musical society. The society puts on a show each and every semester and some recent shows have included productions such as Company, Anything Goes, Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horrors, Whistle Down the Wind and many more. It is a society that is open to all members of the student community and also encourages town-gown relations with a significant amount of the local community buying tickets to see their productions.
This semesters musical is Stephen Sondheim's 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum' and will be Directed by Melissa Tyler on her directing debut for 'Just So'. Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251-183 BC) – specifically Pseudolus, Miles Gloriosus and Mostellaria – it tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master (Hero) woo the girl next door. The plot displays many classic elements of farce, including puns, a set with many doors, cases of mistaken identity (frequently involving characters disguising themselves as one another), and satirical comments on social class.
The Society hold regular social events and trips to local cities to see popular musicals and is always looking for new talent to join their ranks. Dont be shy! If you want to get involved then email: justso@st-andrews.ac.uk
