The St Andrews University Scout and Guide Group (SAUSSAGG) is the local branch of the national Student Scout and Guide Organisation (SSAGO). The club is affiliated to the Students' Association.

The club is a social club, the members sharing a common interest in Scouting and Guiding, and related activities.

The club logo is a saussage on a fork, derived from the club's initials: The club mascot, known as "The Witch", is a string of plastic saussages. Club clothing is a dark green hoodie with the club logo in white, and/or a navy blue neckerchief with a dark blue tartan border. (A woggle is optional.)

Social

The club usually meets on Monday evenings during term and does a variety activities: Some are pure fun, some social, some focussed on current issues, and some inspired by more traditional Scouting. The normal meeting place is the Guide Hall on Greenside Place.

There is a Club camp early in the first semester, and other weekend club events later in the year.

There is a national SSAGO Rally once a term, hosted by one of the clubs somewhere in the UK. There are also regular events held jointly with other SSAGO clubs in Scotland.

Scout Network

Club members aged 18-25 are eligible to become members of the Scout Network, the Scout Association's senior section. Scout Network provides a framework for those working towards their Duke of Edinburgh's Award and/or their Queen's Scout Award.

Volunteering with Scouting and Girlguiding

Students, both club members and otherwise, are an important part of the adult team providing Scouting and Girlguiding for young people in St Andrews.

Scouting has youth sections meeting on every weeknight evening. There are six sections - a Beaver Scout Colony for ages 6-7, two Cub Scout Packs for ages 8-10, two Scout Troops for ages 10-15, and an Explorer Scout Unit for ages 13-18. All the Sections are open to both girls and boys.

Girlguiding has youth sections meeting every weeknight evening. The age ranges are Rainbows from 5-7, Brownies from 7-10, and Guides from 10-14. (Girlguiding is for girls only!)

No prior experience with youth work is necessary: Training will be provided. All volunteers working with children must be checked through Disclosure Scotland. Please contact the SAUSSAGG committee (ssago@) if you are interested in helping.
