Scarves
From sinner
While perhaps more subtle than the traditional gowns, there are four types of school scarf at St Andrews. The scarves are fairly similar: length and width are constant, and all four are made of wool. Furthermore, all bear a similar pattern: two stripes - each of one colour and lined with a pair of stripes of a different colour - on a background of one colour. The exception to this rule is the Bute Medical School scarf, on which the central stripe is bordered by stripes of different colours. The identifying feature of each scarf, therefore, is the colour combination of the stripes.
University: light blue central stripe, lined with thin white stripes on a dark blue background.
Bute Medical School: black central stripe, white stripe on the left, yellow on the right, all on a crimson background.
St Mary's College (Divinity/Theology): white central stripe, lined with thin black stripes on a violet background.
St Leonard's College (Postgraduate): maroon central strip, lined with thin yellow stipes on a navy blue background.
