Introduction

The Shire of Caer Caledon is a medieval society covering a time period from about 600-1600. The society's stated aim is "to research and re-enact various aspects of mediaeval life while having loads of fun along the way" and to this end, organises several feasts every year and regular Sunday sessions.

Meetings

Meetings are generally held in the garden of the Medieval History building (though during exams and when the gates were being replaced they were held in Albany Park) and last from 12 noon until about 5pm every Sunday. The sessions are split into two major parts, with the first two hours (from noon until 2pm) dealing with re-enactment fighting in the garden itself and the rest being anything from medieval craft sessions through to watching films or eating feast leftovers.

Committee Members

Activities

The Shire organises several feasts each year. Michaelmas Feast is held on the first Saturday of term time, the Feast of Courtly Love in March, where the the members of the Shire compete for the titles of King or Queen of Courtly Love and finally, the Beltaine fayre and feast in May. The faire takes place in the castle grounds and has many trader stalls and other activities. There is a fighting arena where the fighters of the Shire compete for the Shire shield. The faire also attracts other re-enactment societies such as the Scottish branch of Regia Anglorum, the Knights of Monymusk, Gaddgedlar and the Company of St Margaret. The feast takes place the same evening and is the largest feast of the year and where the old committee steps down and is replaced by the new one.
