St Andrews Play Club

For those who are interested in acting, production, technical, costume and more, the St Andrews Play Club may be of interest. Not a student club or society, the Play Club were the original founders of the Byre Theatre and is the town based amateur production company.

The membership consists of townspeople, university staff, and one or two students. We put on two shows a year, usually, and for each show we normally take over the main Byre stage for 2 weeks putting on 10 shows. Rehearsals are usually for the 10 weeks prior to the show going up, with three rehearsals a week. The workload is high, as is the commitment, but the rewards are:

  • 10 shows on the main Byre stage
  • 10 weeks of rehearsals with some extremely experienced actors
  • The ability to work with a huge age range of actors; not just the usual student crowd
  • Work with a company that takes its business very seriously; it's unlikely you'll find a more professional amateur company

For more information, have a look at the Play Club's website, and get in touch!
