Tesco... every little helps. St Andrews is one of the many towns with a Tesco supermarket, although in our case, it's a smaller Tesco Metro which sits at the end of Market Street, not far from the union. Its place in the centre of town means it is usually very busy, and good times to avoid it would be lunchtime (when it gets filled with the local school pupils) and the early evening when people get home from work. It's not entirely uncommon to see students wandering around Tesco in their pyjamas at 11.30pm, and it's almost certainly going to be the case that you'll bump into at least one person you know when you shop there!
The store has recently been enlarged slightly redeveloped (as of September 2008), so most people will have returned from the summer not knowing where anything is. Still, it seems a bit tidier and more logical now, so it can only be a good thing.
Rumours abound that our Tesco is one of the most expensive in the UK, and that they're ripping off us students, etc. However, as all Tesco stores supposedly have the same prices (although some of the special offers only apply to larger stores), this is probably just an urban myth. Nevertheless, the subject has occasionally generated a heated argument on the very pages of this site.
