Recently rebuilt, the Byre has been the focus of St Andrews theatre for many years, and with its new look and superb facilities, it promises great things. Ken Alexander, the Artistic Director, is also Honorary President of Mermaids, and patrons include Sean Connery.

The Byre has two theatre spaces: the Lawrence Levy Studio and the A.B.Paterson Auditorium. The studio is a flexible performance space, which has also hosted receptions and music events, while the main theatre is a state-of-the-art performance venue. Famous names at the Byre include Phil Kay, Honor Blackman, Liz Lochhead and Patrick Malahide. KT Tunstall also graced the stage with her presence with the Play Club.

The Byre Bar (10% discount for students on Sunday evenings) has become popular with the Mermaids and Debates crowds, while the restaurant is a pleasant and affordable place to eat. Regular jazz nights keep the bar busy, while Apricot, the Wednesday night arts gathering, has drawn massive crowds for events as diverse as belly-dancing, live Watercolour Challenge and poetry readings."

On Thursday nights in the Byre from 9:30pm is the Jazz night. This is an evening which is enjoyable to either sit back and relax with friends, or get up and have a dance with the Swing Dance Society, who seem to have their socials there most Thursday nights.

Drinks Deals are available Monday to Thursday, including 4 pints for £10 and 4 (fairly strong!) cocktails for £10 as well.
