Perhaps the cheapest coffee and cake spot in St Andrews, the Ladyhead Bookshop and Coffeeshop boasts a friendly and laidback staff, ridiculously low prices (how about a large latte for 90 p?) and some of the most delectable treats on earth. Thanks to its close connection with All Saints church, the Ladyhead is constantly stocked by the beautiful baked goods of some of St Andrews' best Anglican grandmothers.

The seating area is fairly small, but sharing a table with someone else is always a fun option. There's also a bookshop attached to the cafe, allowing you to grab a book while you enjoy your choice of coffee, about a dozen different teas, hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, or perhaps a savoury soup and filled roll. All this can be yours for less than 2 pounds.

The staff is generally quite friendly, a pleasant mix of Uni students and pensioners. It's a volunteer position, so staff tend to be more dedicated to what they're doing than most paid workers. The managers Alan and Helen are almost always on hand and can provide more stimulating conversation than you'll know what to do with.

The Ladyhead is located at the end of North Street, just across the street from the North Point Cafe and is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
