Initially upon entering The New Inn, students (usually those living in Albany Park - it's a bit of a trek for anyone else) may be tempted to walk straight back out. The stares with which 'the locals' greet you don't initially seem too friendly. However don't be fooled. The atmosphere is friendly and not at all hostile towards students; indeed we go along so often that one of my friends now plays for a 'local' team in their weekly pool competition.
The bar itself is rather small by some standards, but then because of its location it doesn't ever get very busy so you don't really notice that. It has a good pool table and a darts board along with comfortable seating and two televisions with Sky for the various sporting events that they show.
There aren't all that many beers on tap but, those that are, pull as fine a pint as you can buy in St Andrews and the best thing is that there is a beer garden for use in summer!
The New Inn is a very good little bar ideally placed for those Albany residents who want a warm-up drink before heading into the town or for a game of pool and to watch the footie.
