Formerly known as the Gin House which was previously Ogstons which used to be O'Henrys, The Rule is the ubiquitous shape-shifting drinking establishment in the middle of South Street.
Inexplicably, The Rule often opens at 8am offering a huge breakfast and will then plough through the next sixteen or seventeen hours serving a delightful array of food and booze.
Seemingly perpetually offering some sort of drink deal, the intelligent Rule-dweller will turn up at 5pm for two hours of half-price cocktails, then go home for a leisurely and probably boozy dinner and return at 9pm for £1.50 optics-and-mixers. The pub seems to attract a healthy mix of students, locals and flyboys out of Leuchars. Now I think about it, it's absolutely enormous and offers a vast range of seating, standing, and dancing room.
The Rule also seems to offer bizarre and unpredictable attractions. I once turned up there to find 'Home Alone' being screened on the projector with the volume at deafening levels. It was brilliant. There's a sizable beer garden too which is rather pleasant of a summer's afternoon.
If you haven't been there since it was the Gin House then beware - the gents' and ladies' loos have been swapped over.
