Weather in St Andrews

It's tropical compared to the west coast.

It's rare for the temperature to drop below 10C during the day however it is also rare for it to go above 20C. Thermals are definitely not needed although pyjamas aren't appropriate attire despite what many females think.

Rain in St Andrews comes in spells, where for a week you won't see the sky, although these spells aren't as frequent as the moaning from people will suggest.

The wind can be horrendous, especially in the exposed parts of town (beach and the DRA field are particularly bad). The worst times for this being autumn and late winter when there is a likelyhood for stormier weather. Fleeces or other wind breaker type clothing are must haves for those not used to the wind chill.

There can be sun in St Andrews although you won't see this unless you spend the summer there with the golfers and other tourists.

Clothing, don't take too many big thick things, it's possibly to wear just hoodies and many a girl can be seen sporting skimpy dresses even in December. As said elsewhere on here though, the flip flops are unlikely to get much use so don't bring loads of summer gear either.
