Blackout

Was it just around Lamond Drive that there was a loss of electric today about 3-3:30?

Must have been quite widespread - the power was out in Boarhills too (about 5 miles out of town).

Life is like a beautiful melody, only the lyrics are messed up.

Anyone phone scottish power's helpline? How amazing is it? It's completely automated and can understand (and say back in its own voice) my address. If only all automated systems could be so good!

Power cut covered the whole of town, so it seems. Now we just have to wait a few hours for ITS to get all their servers back up. :P

Nope! All throughout town it seemed to be!

not just cross town - i think it was the whole area, was definitely out as far away as cupar...

I was in Leuchars station and the lack of power was much the same, except with an added alarm for the whole duration

Blame the Bell street workmen. they probably cut through a power line, or something.

You'd think they could isolate the supply within St Andrews then, if that was the case. There have been times in the past where one half of the town has had power and the other half not, so I imagine the problem may have been something bigger than a workman cutting through a wire. (Unless, of course, it was a workman somewhere further along the power line near Cupar or something...)

Has anyone watched the tv series "jericho"? I felt myself wishing this was the start of something similiar. In fact I was testing my baseball bat for smash and grab potential, and peering out to the sky above edinburgh for even a small mushroom cloud.

i was joking about the workmen, they have restricted themselves to flood damage and water supply termination.

. . .apparently it was due to some kind of high power anti-missile (artillery?) laser which was being tested at leuchars; something to do with non-chemical lasers?

Blackout - awesome

The best thing about the blackout was that everyones computers turned off ( unless battery powered) this meant that their torrents stopped downloading and once the power came back on it meant i could play xbox live without getting DC'ed due to heavy network traffic in the Lamond drive area.

It makes me want to trip and reset the power every day!

Shows how insanely reliant we are on electricity for our lives. Kind of puts things into perspective really when every building has to evacuate just because there's no power!

I noticed this too. Was able to pull of crazy headshots from a million miles away and got best player on a 50 man server. Its a bit shit that most of that skill is down to network speed.
