Breakfast Club School

What it says on the tin...

Does anyone know the name of the school which you can volunteer in helping out with the breakfast club (no Molly Ringwald jokes, please!) in the St.Andrews area? Also, it is called 'Breakfast Club' or is there something more formal for it?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I know there are two primary schools that have breakfast clubs in St Andrews- Canongate primary school and Lawhead primary school.

If you are looking to help out at either breakfast club, you should contact 'Families First' the organisation that provides the volunteers, food and generally run the clubs. You can do this by either popping into the branch in Rose Lane (off South Street) or you could email ffchildcaremanager@googlemail.com.

Hope this helps!

Would you mind clarifying what a Breakfast Club is please? Other than the film, and a bunch of my mates who resolved to get up for breakfast in hall No Matter What, I've not heard of it.

It's like an after-school club - somewhere for kids to go and take part in activities before school. It's provided for kids whose parents have to go to work before school starts mainly.

...and in poorer areas, its sometimes the only place children can guarantee to have something available to eat for breakfast. (by poorer, I mean alcoholic junkies that would rather spend their quite generous government hand-outs on themselves than their children)

It might also worth contacting the Cosmos Centre in Abbey Street: http://www.cosmoscentre.org.uk/Index.asp?MainID=3201

Families first runs breakfast clubs every morning at either Lawhead or Cannongate and afterschool clubs on thurs and fri for the latter (not sure about lawhead).
Its also possible to do befriending through them as well.
