Gaming on Resnet

This may be an stupid or Oft-repeated question but is online game ing possible on Resnet or does the unversity firewall entirely block access to external gaming servers?

Pretty much. We run servers for Unreal Tournament, Counter-Strike, Savage and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

But noone ever seems to be on them, at least not in good numbers.

There were several games on the go last night. Publicity for them isn't the best however, and never has been. Your best bet is to hang around on IRC, and/or add the usual gaming clique to MSN.

Point an IRC client to wired.st-and.ac.uk, or use the applet: http://wired.st-and.ac.uk/Other/IRC/

Membership is £3 for the year. Our next meeting is at 2.30 on Friday in the DRA Bar, you're welcome to come along and sign up then. Failing that, if you're a computer scientist you can corner (with due caution) one of the committee in the lab, or one of us can arrange to meet you, or you can send us a cheque at the Union via the mail system of your choice. :)

Much as Fawksie said, only the meeting is not normally on a Friday, it is normally on a Wednesday.

And if you are a CS student you can find one of us normally in pretty much any of the labs, or on the above IRC.
