Courier Grand Final

Thanks to all of you who have helped- you've been truly brilliant. Thanks also to those of you who came and celebrated the end of the trips into schools.... I bet that's the first time the police have busted in on a game of Cluedo... Anyway!! Invites for the Grand Final are winging their way to all ...

Courier Semi Finals

Thanks to everyone who helped with round 2- it's a relief that it's over, given all the illness problems we had, but we had some great debates despite this and I am, as always, amazed at how much time you're all willing to put in to help out. So many of you turned up at short notice to swing speak w...

Re: Dream Speakers

A plan would be to get hold of the Oxford Union booklets from their last couple of terms- whoever they had is obviously willing to speak in a debate or give an address. Some of them will obviously have done so because Oxford is easier to get to from London than St Andrews is, but never the less, it ...

The end of round one!

Thanks to everyone who came to a heat in the first round (which ended last night) I really appreciate how helpful you all were, and that so many of you were happy to swap about where it was needed (at such short notice!) The second round will begin on the 13th January- details to follow soon.... Tha...

Help! Courier emergency...

If there is a debater out there who has a car and is willing to drive to Forfar this evening to save heat 5 of the first round of the courier schools competition, I would be so grateful. The school meant to be in first prop have dropped out of the competition, and The Courier mini bus is being servi...

USA Election Debate

Just wanted to say that the debate last night was the first one I had been to in a very long time, and it was so enjoyable- congratulations to Jess on getting such good speakers. It is so nice to see a mix of students who are really passionate about a topic (rather than someone from the board of ten...

The Courier Schools Debating Competition 2008-9

Just to let everyone know that the draw for the first round of The Courier is complete, and that anyone interested in chairing, serjeanting or judging should e-mail either the school's secretary James Beadle on jb582, or myself on lawilson@dcthomson.co.uk (or even post your contact details on this t...

Re:

4th year English is up.
I'm extremely relieved, and upset that half nine is well too early to have a celebratory drink.

Re:

To clarify- it isn't an award from Andrew Neil, it is named in honour of him (symbolically because it was first given to someone who had achieved in the field of broadcasting). Andrew Neil does, I believe, know about it though. [hr] "When I came back to Dublin, I was courtmartialled in my absence an...

Re:

Every time I'm at a debate these days it's like being at the opening of a bloody film- always cameras clicking and flashes going off everywhere. Who are the people taking loads of photos, and are there any of Wednesday or the Balaka? [hr] "When I came back to Dublin, I was courtmartialled in my abse...

Well, given that I proposed him, I'm going to have that opinion- but I do genuinely think he's been very good. But like I say, it is personal opinion. Re:

As I predicted- exciting stuff.... I'm kind of glad there were so few there a)so not many people witnessed the speeches and b) as it had a bit of a feel of a pub lock in for sad old hacks, even if I was drinking tea... A couple of people who are clearly on drugs have mentioned to me that they enjoye...

Re:

Quoting Dave the Explosive Newt from 20:59, 24th Apr 2008 Based on previous years, perhaps someone else should run a celeb candidate who never so much as answers the phone and makes his competition look better by comparison? I'm sure someone like Gyles Brandreth would be up for that. [hr] I'm prett...
