I think anybody posting any kind of numbers publicly should be a matter rapidly taken up by elections officers. This thread should be deleted. This could be very easily misread by the a young voter not wishing to look further down the thread (or read the post) as an accurate reflection of student op...

You answered everything quite well, actually, and to my satisfaction- I'm convinced. Harry, A few questions. 1)Have you ever taken a course in economics? 2) Accommodation Your first stated policy is to make the University, and I quote, "stop pricing students out of an education" ...through their accommodation pricing policy. The University's hall system is designed to break even as ...

Cutting the time would mean more of us would have back to back exams which is just simply exhausting and stressful.

[b]Quoting Mad4surfing from 13:43, 29th Oct I think you won't get a company to be honest if it costs them. You'd have to legislate so they could be as transparent as possible. Giving consumer more choice. To be fair to RBS they do promote themselves as the Oil bank of scotland", but not to the high...

Quoting turnblad from 08:06, 1st Nov 2007 Yeah, and it could also get better. It is also still only early days, and at least they are being up front about it. ...They've predicted a deficit of £10k. That is £27k LESS of a deficit. That doesn't scream terribly bad to me. ...I'd much rather have sabb...

Re:

We digress- the point is: A) the Union has an operating deficit. Last year's deficit was £37,000 and this year's deficit is projected at £10,000, and it's early days. It could get worse. Most of the sabs incumbent now were in the machine last year, and should bear some responsibility. B) It has not ...

Re:

Quoting Al from 23:11, 30th Oct 2007 Of course, another question is why so much authority seems to have been handed from elected officials to the staff. Because elected officials don't run the place anymore. They can't be bothered, and once the "staff are in charge" precedent is in place, elected o...

Re:

Quoting worried from 01:28, 30th Oct 2007 The key issue in this whole debate is that the University needs to give our Union more money. It's shocking how small our grant is compared to other universities. Any suggestions on how we can get them to cough up? The point is, they have no reason to give ...

Quoting Al from 22:51, 28th Oct 2007 And it's odd that the Association structure is more hierarchical now than ever it was before the adoption of a "non-hierarchical structure". In addition, there seems to be - especially in the case of the DoR and DoSDA - a sort of "remit pile-up" in the Associati...

Scottish notes are legal tender for the payment of all debts, yes. However, this does not mean that someone needs to accept them legally at a kebab shop or newsagent. Latest Poll: Accommodation

Latest Poll... Live in any major city, and your rent for one week will be equivalent to what you'd pay here in St Andrews in a month, and you'll get less space. St Andrews' Uni accommodation is very reasonably priced, especially given the state of the present housing market. Quit whining. They were ...

In the old days the University was massively in debt, and getting worse. Also, if you don't like the fees, it's not like St Andrews Uni is the only university in the country. Re:

Plus, as much as the Union thinks it's independent and has a right to this that and the other thing, remember---

The University not only paid for the building, but bailed it out from bankruptcy during the 1980s.

So the Association kind of owes them a favour back.
