Re: Beware Union RBS cashpoint!

The Students' Association has contacted the Royal Bank of Scotland to make them aware that there may be an issue with the cashpoint hosted at the Students' Association. (This machine is operated by RBS, not the Union). If you are in doubt about any cashpoint (ATM), DO NOT USE it, and notify either y...

A tax on grief? Can we change this?

There are a number of items that are exempt from VAT however, these are things that the government considers essential such as food, children’s clothing, women’s sanitary products, and other non-luxuries. One of Britain’s best known “little known facts” is that food manufacturer McVities went to cou...

Re: University challenge

Fearghas graduated last year, and although he's around St Andrews at the moment, I don't think he's still the appointed harrassee. Send an email to union@st-and.ac.uk and they should be able to advise you who's the new person.

Re: A new user's guide to the Sinner

My mate delivered the baby in Children of Men. (He's a CGI editor; the baby wasn't real).

Sinner offline this afternoon

Hello everyone, Thesinner was taken offline this afternoon after suspicions of an attack on the server. Our hosting company was upgrading the server from PHP4 to PHP5, and although the site was ready for the change, there was the risk of a breach in security. In order to make sure that the server re...

Re: What if I want to work out?

For cycling and walking maps, take a look at the University's maps - www.st-andrews.ac.uk/maps
and http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/cyclemap.pdf in particular

Re: A0 poster

Powerpoint ought to do the trick, and you can get your A0 poster printed at the Union. Can usually be done while you wait, or within about one-two hours at a push

Re: matric cards getting refused?

Or to save you finding those threads... If the offer is advertised as a "student discount", then they should honour ALL student cards. If, however, it's an "NUS discount", then I'm afraid the St Andrews card won't entitle you to the discount. The University of St Andrews Students...

In need of a little excitement?

I'm planning some publicity for our annual Gown Sale in Freshers' Week and need some models for a few photographs. If you're in town and would like to spend an hour or so involved in a photoshoot around St Andrews, please email me on sadesign@st-and.ac.uk and we'll see when everyone's available. If ...

Re: Grad ball ticket exchange

I'm glad you like it Jono.
For those who haven't yet collected theirs, the wristband is black and white fabric, with silver embroidery thread. It has been designed to look understated yet elegant, in order to complement ladies' and gentlemen's evening wear.

Re: Grad ball ticket exchange

Oli - you just said "Whether you have exchanged your wristband already, or will be doing so either tomorrow afternoon or evening" - does this mean we can exchange our tickets for wristbands this afternoon?? Yes, wristband exchange will also be Friday afternoon, 12-4.30pm. Then at the door...

Re: Grad ball ticket exchange

The ball will be held in marquees which have a limit to their capacity. The wristbands are to ensure that they cannot be passed from person to person, and thus the capacity cannot be exceeded. In previous years, we have exchanged tickets for wristbands on the night, but this has resulted in very lon...

Anyone seen a Peugeot key?

My car key fell out of my pocket while I was in a Willamson's taxi on Friday night. The driver thought it belonged to someone else, and now we don't know where it is. The bloke he gave it to had dark hair, and was going to Murrayfield on Saturday to watch the match. He might also have had an Irish o...

Re: What do you put on the barbecue?

I realise that although I thought I'd invited everyone, I didn't get the word round to enough people about Saturday's BBQ, though as I only really decided to do it on Friday afternoon, that did make it a bit tricky to spread the word. I also tried using Facebook as the word-spreading medium (well, i...

Re: What do you put on the barbecue?

I'd gladly host a Sinner Dinner/ BBQ! And with enough requests, I'll provide more Irn Bru Sweet Chilli burgers (or sausages if I'm prepared enough to get the hog casings ready in time). Or I might go for another recipe - I'm always willing to try new things. Perhaps we can aim for a fortnight from n...

Re: Grrrrrrrrr!

So get the hosting, build the site, implement the system... and have someone buy 50 with one purchase? Or have a technical problem that prevents people buying? That's when things really get ugly. We initially wanted to sell tickets last Saturday to avoid this problem, but we followed the Associatio...

Re: Starfields

Due to the extremely high winds, it's not possible to use the tent today, so the event has indeed been moved to the Union, and will start at 6pm. We hope to have use of the tent for Sunday's part of the festival.

Re: Language Tables

That sounds like a really good idea. Get in touch with Philippa (Director of Student Development and Activities) or Jonathan (Societies Officer) and see if they could either help you start the society, or at the least help arrange a place/time to give it a go (the main bar of the union, or Venue2 wo...
