Re:

Actually, it worked for me last year for sending emails. You just need to set the outgoing SMTP server to the same as your incoming mail server (so like langs.st-andrews.ac.uk in this case). Maybe some servers don't support it, but in the past I've always used purds.st-andrews.ac.uk and it worked. Q...

Actually, I don't know what the fuss is about with Eve Brown. Rented a flat from them for the last couple of years, and in that time we broke many things including the window of the washing machine, made some burning marks on a couple of tables, and we got our deposit back in full... And they were a...

Re:

Oh and here's another question - do students (postgrads and undergrads) have to matriculate on a specific day, or can we just go on any of the three?

It also happened with Sedna last year or the year before, but in this case things are different. For once, the minimum size of the object is larger than pluto. So unless they have made a mistake, it does look like it could be a 10th 'planet'. (unless there is some mistake of course) Prophet Tenebrae...

Re:

ok, thanks!

nah, I just remember some kind of discussion about the fact the one they gave was in latin or english and if you paid more you could get a nicer looking one with english or latin. But I guess the people discussing this were just talking rubbish then.

Graduation...

Sorry for the lack of imagination for the title of this topic...

I seem to remember people mentionning a while ago that the paper degree the uni gives you is rubbish quality unless you pay £40 to have a nice one. Is this true? What does the uni give you if you don't pay anything?

Hmmm, thinking about it I suspect that the book I saw that in was probably sponsored by lecturers ;)

Traditions

Are there any traditions that students should observe around graduation time? I read in a book about st andrews that there is a tradition to offer a bottle of wine to a lecturer or something like that. Is there any such thing?

Re:

There used to be a webpage on the university website which had the list of all the different prizes, classified by department. Does this page still exist? I can seem to find it, thanks to the crappy search engine on the Uni website...

Postgraduate residences

Hi,

Was just wondering if anyone has photos of what postgrad gatty or angus/stanley smith house look like inside as these two aren't shown on the accomodation webpage.

Also, what's the best option for postgrads, private accomodation, or uni residence/house?

Thanks!
