Re: Deader than a doornail.

There were at least many, many thousands of spam posts awaiting moderator approval, last time I visited this place (several months ago). They seem to have all gone now, maybe somebody deleted them.

EDIt: Ah, I see Oli did.

Re: TAKEN (Free TV)

The aerial socket is not going to be much use these days anyway, unless you want to hook it up to a particularly retro console or VCR!

Re: A thread by any other name...

I had the pleasure of Novium's company just last week, but like most people, I guess she doesn't check here any more. Prophet Tenebrae can be found if you know where to look, but I doubt he's logged on here in years.

Re: Matt Baker - Eat It!

Eat It was an original parody song by Weird Al, released in 1984. It seems more likely that Blue Peter used that, or possibly that they came up with an entirely separate version with the same name?

Re: The Raisin

I think it lost the Scream brand well over a year ago, although I cannot remember who owned it then. It was definitely still The Raisin last time I was there, which was the Monster Pub Crawl.

Re: SKeleton KeY

Now where would be the fun in that? Maybe just leave it as it is, and somebody will inevitably dig it up in 2014.

Re: Any ATMs/Cashpoints (using a foreign card)?

Assuming you're asking which ATMs you can use with a foreign card, it depends on your card. But, by and large, you should be able to use pretty much any, as long as they show an appropriate card logo or network affiliation (e.g., Link, Cirrus). You will almost certainly be charged fees by your bank,...

Re: Broadband: which to choose?

Are there any providers that actually offer "unlimited" downloads these days? Almost all will at least have something in their small print restricting you to a pitiful amount, before then slowing your downloads right now. I'd still recommend the provider I did a couple of years ago , ADSL2...

Re: Shipping

I used Fast Lane to organise shipping from the UK to Minnesota last year. For the amount of stuff I was sending, it was fairly reasonable (around £300 for 85kg of stuff, sent through DHL by air). It's probably cheaper via ship, but much, much slower. I found them to be cheaper than looking up the li...

Re: Beware Union RBS cashpoint!

Wait, how does someone withdraw £400 anyway? I have an RBS account and my maximum daily withdrawal is £250. Unless the thief came back and withdrew £250 then a further £150 the next day! Different accounts can have different withdrawal limits. I think mine is £300. However, I think all RBS cash mac...

Re: Cheap ways to get to London?

Depending on how far in advance you book, you could get down to London by train (East Coast) for as little as £10. I think I got a ticket to London for £7.50 or so (including a NXEC web discount and railcard discount, mind you). That was a few years ago though, so with the way train fares inflate, i...

Re: Are you a lively bunch?

To a degree, you do have to make your own entertainment. But St Andrews students tend to manage that admirably, and there is lots going on if you seek it out. And if all else fails, Dundee and Edinburgh aren't too far away if you want a proper club!

Re: Internet

Indeed, I've used ADSL24 for a number of years now (and indeed introduced Thalia to it by using it in our flat last year :P). They offer a 1-month contract, very good speeds and don't slow down your downloads, etc, artificially. But they don't offer inclusive phone service if that's the kind of thin...

Re: Siena

I can't speak for events this year, but at least in previous years, major events have generally seen giant posters outside the union, "top billing" in the weekly e-mails, plus a deluge of Facebook invitations/groups. While I agree that it does seem like a good portion of the student body s...

Re: Well, St Andrews is on Street View at last

The Shell garage on Bridge Street has both petrol and diesel at 102.9p/litre. I can't really remember what levels they were at in mid-2009, but it seems like it's quite possibly from around then, as it was definitely much higher in summer 2008!
