This is going to sound stupid but have you tried phoning it? There's always a chance someone will answer and you can get it back (although its a bit unlikely). Either that or you hear it yourself and find you dropped it somewhere in your house/flat.

You could try raising it off the ground as well as put it on a bit of carpet or a rug. If you really don't want to annoy your neighbours though, best bet is to not use it, especially at the exam time.
