With any luck, the lecturer/tutor will disregard the peer assessment component and simply apply their own mark. I do know that this has happened in the past, and it seems entirely sensible.

Twas ever thus. Since the beginning of recorded memory (OK, then at least since the 1990s) numbers have flcutuated due to a whole range of reasons.

I don't think your experiences will be unique to life at St As. My experience at another institution was that it took a lot of adjusting getting used to a smaller circle of friends having been a St A's undergrad. My own subject area did not require any teamwork, and I did not even have shared office...

Okocim is right - if you like the topic go for it. And yes you can be "far out" as long as someone is willing to supervise it. Most supervisors are fairly broad minded as long as it is in their general area of competence.

One way to impress would to suggest a list of books/sources (especially of a primary type such as documents) that you could use to show that there is enough out there to support your topic.
