Re: Shipping

If you are happy with sending several "parcels" rather than getting a moving company on the job, check out Pharos Parcel . I used them last year to send a lot of stuff back to Germany for very little money, and their quotes to the US seem rather cheap as well. They have a weight limit, tho...

Re: Mandarin & french / italian language tutor

Where can I find Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) ? I don't have them on my facebook. Fyi I'm a new student that will only start studying in august hehe Hmm... search for CSSA, and you should find a group on facebook. I'd post a link to their group, but I'm in China right now, and f...

Re: Mandarin & french / italian language tutor

Since you mentioned "improving" your Mandarin - the classes offered by the Evening Language School are either quite basic, or of a very mixed level and with little time, so you may be better off getting a private tutor, unless you have zero knowledge - then give the classes a go. As for tu...

Re: Inquiry about tickets to New York

Very effective, but slightly tedious way to find fantastic rates: 1) Check all the big pages - skyscanner.net, kayak.com, expedia, statravel etc. Make sure to use flexible dates and airports searches (eg 'nearby airports' features). Once you have found the cheapest flight on each route, note down pr...

Re: Job Decisions

The language shouldn't be a problem - most teachers don't speak a word of Chinese before they arrive, and most schools offer free language courses for the foreign teachers (although that's typically just a few hours a week.) And as for travel - by law, if you stay for one semester the school has to ...

Re: Job Decisions

do they take you without a CELTA/DELTA? because if so, i'm coming over niko! Oh yes, many people don't even have a TEFL certificate when they start here. Most schools' minimum requirement is a college degree - so with the St Andrews MA, we already have an advantage over the usual BA. Any other qual...

Re: Job Decisions

If you finish your course and have a semester to kill, come to China to teach English here. They're always looking for people and often employ new teachers in the winter; you'd have no problem getting a job there for a semester and could even save some money because everything is so cheap.

Re: Lost essay!

There is a slim chance you will see the file again - I once had that luck. I think what I did was go back to the same computer the same day (go before it next shuts down or undergoes maintenance), open a different file from email (to try and see which temporary directory it puts the file into), and ...

Re: Lost USB - with my dissertation on it!

Also ask at the normal service desk at the library, and the security guards that walk around BW and the library at night - they may have seen something and handed it in to a particular place or put it somewhere. Back when BW had two rooms available (is it back to that now, or is it still only the sm...

Re: Year/Semester Abroad??

If you're in St Andrews only for the course and the grades then no, it won't be for you - you'll have better or worse lecturers and get better or worse grades, depending to some degree on where you go - and that one, you don't have too much of a say in. The experiences you'll make, on the other hand...

Re: Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

I'd rather you jumped to your search-and-replace function, replacing all of those references to "price" with "prize". ^.^ Ouch - my apologies, it was nearly 4am, and I was very drunk. The closing date for nominations was February 1st. That's only 12 days after he became presiden...

Re: Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

Maybe I should jump to the Nobel Peace Price Committee's defence here. For one, it is interesting how many a time a popular award is presented, the general population is certain to know better than those giving the award whether the honour is deserved or not. Every major award/price has criteria for...

Re: The Saint-back copies

Wait - you're not saying The Saint doesn't keep an archive of its own stuff, are you...? :ninja:

In any case, I think the library keeps back copies of The Saint that you should be able to photocopy. Good luck!

Hehe, although if they are right about the 20 most viewed pages in the UK as well, then oh dear. Either we're all porn addicts or we can't spell. Or both.

Re: Honorary Life Memberships

Cards will be sent out later in the summer I was told, and yepp, entry to the Union without having to be signed in. What filled me with great joy is that, given all those agreements, the same applies for most unions across the country, for life!
