Re:

Sadly I'm no longer in St Andrews. I've got the number for Ede and Ravenscroft so will give em a ring tomorrow.

Thanks for your help!

Gowns at other institutions

Hello, I'm looking for some advice/opinions on gowns. I have my red gown from my first degree at St Andrews; now I'm about to embark on a postgrad course at Durham. My college is asking me to buy an UNDERgraduate gown as I will need it for formal dinners, matriculation, etc. However, I'm a POSTgrad,...

Re:

I'm at home on snowy Teesside listening to the match on the radio. The shops and roads are empty just now. I don't normally bother with the footie but I'm enjoying the atmosphere we have on Teesside at the moment. Hello Boro fans :-D

University won't return my deposit

The Cash Office is denying that I paid them a £50 deposit for my room in Gatty last year, which is why I haven't had it returned. Although I can't find my hall fees receipt I have a bank statement which shows I paid the full amount, which included the deposit, by cheque, way back last September. Can...

Re:

I was thinking about finally getting round to having my ears pierced... then I saw Make-Overs From Hell on ITV the other week. Owwww!! Lots of graphic ear-death scenes.

So I'll wait a bit longer I think!

Re:

I was engaged to someone for four years, now I'm not. So in my experience engagement means nothing. My advice is, if someone asks to marry you, don't believe it till your walking back down the aisle. Even if you have a ring. I suppose I'm a bit cynical in my old (23) age :-( BUT having said that, I ...

Re:

Yeah, the library only put postgrads on the waiting lists now. I was on for the whole of the last academic year and only had one offer of a shift which was at a time I couldn't do. It's a great job if you can get it though.

I would have wanted to be either Rainbow Brite or She-Ra as they had nice horses. I can even remember She-Ra's horse's name - Spirit. Sad innit.

Re:

You may be asked to have someone act as a guarantor (sp?) i.e. a parent (for example) fills in a form stating their occupation, also giving bank details, so that the landlord can get money back if you happen to wreck the place. I only heard of this today as my dad has just filled one in for my siste...

My T-mobile seemed okay in most places, except for just one house in Gatty for some reason. Library, school of English, union - these places were fine.

Re:

I was with the Halifax for 4 years, and their maximum was 1250 for final year students, which is quite low compared with other banks. They recently made it £2000, but when I asked for an extension they said no. So...went to the Natwest who were very good and gave me the extra 750 (then I hit the sho...

Re:

IMO you can't NOT get an overdraft if it's interest free. Stick it in a savings account and reap the interest if you don't need the money immediately.

Free money yay!!

Re:

So EvilTwin you would say it IS possible to be good friends after a split? One of the things that's depressed me most was the prospect of losing my best friend. Would you say, from your experience, that it IS possible for a couple to just be friends after, without any emotional hang-ups? I'd like to...

I'm going through the same thing :-( I wasn't dumped, it was a mutual thing, but it's still bloody painful. Worse, I'm home for the summer and can't find any friends to go out with as they've moved on and away. I'd love to start work full time (I graduate in Sept) but I have a dissertation to sit do...

Student discount and Top Shop

Any union people here able to clarify this? When I buy from Top Shop I always ask for the 10% student discount, and mostly they think nothing of it - 100% of the time in Dundee Top Shop it's fine. But today in my home branch the girl said she couldn't accept my matric card as it wasn't NUS. I gave h...

Re:

When Boots did mine all the pictures came up on the screen and I was able to choose which ones I wanted. Didn't have to get them all printed. For less than 20 (or it might be 10) prints ordered at once each print is 40p, and it gets cheaper the more prints you order at a time.

I know what you mean Stan. I don't know whether I'm living in Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees or North Yorkshire. I don't understand the politics of this regional assembly thing, or whether I support it. I just think that north of the Tees a lot of people do think of themselves as northerners, with noth...
