Re:

A journalist once asked Mother Theresa why she was against abortion when there were so many unwanted children. Mother Theresa replied "What unwanted children? I want them". Essentially I think abortion is often used to make us feel better about the many problems in society (poverty, lack of family s...

Re:

With regard to abortion after pregnancy as a result of rape or incest these make up a tiny amount of all abortions carried out in the UK. Only 0.3% of Abortions carried out in the UK in 2000 (The last year for which I have figures) were for women who had concieved as a result of incest or rape. Alth...

Re:

The problem is this starts with a false premise: "Q: What is conservatism? A: Conservatism is the domination of society by an aristocracy." This isn't the defenition of conservatism used by most conservatives, hence the argument is entirely false. [hr] Some day we shall be glad to remember such things

I admit that the inter-semester break can sometimes be a bit annoying, however it is necessary to allow the January Exams to be marked by tutors and lecturers.

Quoting exnihilo from 20:23, 8th Dec 2005 Whereas, what you would have is a system in which a couple cannot designate each other as next of kin, do not automatically have, for example, the right to make decisions on each other's behalf while ill, cannot be deemed as a unit in terms of the law. You,...

Quoting themushroomgod from 18:48, 8th Dec 2005 I think we all need to accept that in today's modern world, the morals that govern what is permissible in society need to be secular in nature, not tied to any sort of religeous belief system. This is one of these ideas that sound great in theory but ...

Re:

One thing I do find interesting is the increasing polarisation in society between those who maintain "traditional" moral standards and those (such as The Dude) who maintain a more "Modernist" stance. I think this fundamental disagreement may cause severe problems and tensions in society in the futur...

Quoting exnihilo from 17:38, 8th Dec 2005 I take my faith very seriously too. No doubt you do, though if macgamer wasn't defending the teachings of his church he'd be accused of double standards by not being willing to actually stand by his beliefs. Just as you have as a moral duty to defend why yo...

While macgamers views may anger some, you must respect him/her. They clearly take their faith very seriously and are willing to argue it against strong opposition. While you may disagree with them they clearly practice what the believe in their faith, if only the world contained more people so serio...
