Re:

i would definitely support any form of protest. and since st. andrews is so keen on its image that we're not even allowed to publicly talk about it, what if we submitted an anonymous story to the press? on the subject of elitism and exclusion at the UK university of the year...if a few of us got tog...

Re:

none of that has shit to do with the fact that the university doesn't give a crap about the position students are in regarding accomodation. we flat out don't get what we pay for, whether we're in the center of town or not.

Re:

my degree is also in jeopardy because of the accomodation situation. i can't afford to live in a flat either, especially after i lost *two* deposits this year. i had to bail on one flat mid year because my landlord (or so i was informed by two separate solicitors) committed criminal negligence by no...

Re:

darshan - we should definitely make a fuss to lang. it's all well and good to air out our thoughts here on the message board but if enough people feel this way (and it's my distinct impression that they do) we should do something more than just vent about it.

Al - also on that note, their role IS to get the best possible return for their clients...BUT the higher the return, the higher their commissions. and again, it's mostly the excessive greed in the admissions office that allows those rates to continue escalating. tone down admissions = less demand fo...

Re:

i think the university is to blame for the high cost of living both in halls and in the private sector - estate agents are able to demand more money for crap properties simply because the university has let in more students than there are beds for them to sleep in. the administration is enabling the...

infuriating infuriating infuriating

Alyson, you posted, regarding protests against rise in hall fees: "this has gained little response from the people with power over such things in the university as it is their policy to base rents on the market value of accommodation rather than what a specific hall costs to run." and man that PISSE...

agreed

the situation with admissions and the impact it has on accomodation and other services is maddening. it drives up the cost of living and makes it increasingly impossible to afford a basic student life in st. andrews. i'd go as far as to say that the administration is even guiltier than our loathsome...
