Re:

but munchinfoo, then we're actually being happy, where the fun is all in being nasty and bitchy towards the couples.

Re:

lol, yeah, they should have a special party for all singles to get together and cheer each other up, instead of having to look at all that mushy red and pink crap and feel morose. anybody want to host a party?

Re:

besides, it's not all that difficult to get in here as an American. basically 50% of applicants get accepted for the 4-year thing, and for JSA/JYA stuff, it's more about the university in the States' admissions policy, not St Andrews.'

Re:

hey, i resent that. maybe you don't know any people like that, goodgod, but i certainly do. i can't count how many times people back in the states have asked me how hard it is to have all my classes in a foreign language, or if all the guys wear kilts to class, etc.etc. i'm with greebo on this one, ...

year off

Does anyone know if it's possible to take a year off in the midst of your uni studies? I'm a first year, and for the past 6 months I've been wishing I took a gap year instead of coming straight here. How would the university feel about me taking off the next year and then coming back as a second yea...

Re:

I'd like to get some of those stickers that say "I support our troops (and their right to die for my oil)" and slap them on some SUVs. This guy makes some good points, although he's oversimplifying as propaganda, even reverse/parodied propaganda is wont to do. But there's no denying that when we buy...

Re:

hmm. as fellow American, I'm going to correct this girl before the rest of you jump on her. Point number 1: It's Gaelic, not galic. Point number 2: You can take an evening language class in Gaelic which will cost you extra, around £70 I think-- part of the Living Languages programme. Obviously, as y...

Re:

I forget their name, but they're the ones on the side of Bell Street that Bella Pasta is on. As a matter of further interest, I was told we have to get there at 4 am at the latest to stand in line if we want to get a decent flat. Is this true? Also have heard conflicting info about exactly what you'...

Re:

yeah, and don't forget the idiocy of the ball in Goblet of Fire, when Ron and Hermione get in a fight and she says 'if you wanted to go with me you should have asked' and Ron gets all embarassed. Lot of ands there, sorry about that.

Re:

ugh, Snape back from the dead? he's be even more cadaverous than usual, not a good call.

Does anyone else think Harry might get with Ginny Weasley while Ron and Hermione get together? I think that'd be cute. And he can get over his asinine crush on Cho Chang.

Re:

but if we lose Dumbledore, Harry won't have mentoring father-figure type, always a necessity in these sort of things. Unless, as someone said (lol, by the way) that he'll pull a Gandalf. On the semi-unrelated note of Philip Pullman: I've been a huge fan of his since I was a child and I read his Sall...

Re:

the whole thing with Val Craig is very frustrating. So she's supposed to come to your dorm between 6 and 9 either last night or tonight. Are we just supposed to wait around in the commons room until she does? I have some information which may or may not be helpful, but I also have exams. Will she co...

Re:

Snape's a good idea, but why would that death scene be difficult for JK to write? It'd be almost jolly if you ask me, although the prospect of no Alan Rickman in the films would indeed be a tragedy. His Dark Materials trilogy is excellent, but it'd be a little sudden if Harry's just whipped off to s...

Re:

also cool theories, but I have to disagree with some: I don't think Hagrid's going to die; Robbie Coltrane said in an interview that JK Rowling told him some stuff about Hagrid's character in later books so he'd be able to play the role better, and that wouldn't make much sense if his character dies...

brilliant!

I thought it was better than Fellowship, although the Ents kind of pissed me off. They seemed a bit silly, not quite so majestic as they were in the book. Still excellent, however, especially when in a theatre filled with Legolas-fans at a midnight showing on the 18th. . . and I got a free ticket in...

this is pathetic! i mean, i know the average american is pretty ignorant, but only 89% able to place the US on a map?? good lord! this makes me even more glad I went a school that made me take geography. Some of these results are quite amusing-- apparently more French people know where Italy is than...
