Re: Live TV streaming

Still curious about why the NFP method doesn't divorce sex from it's procreative aspect when it's whole purpose is to have sex without procreating... NFP can be used with a 'contraceptive mentality' much as the one you described. However not to 'divorce sex from its procreative aspect, there is a n...

Re: Return Bus Fare to Edinburgh?

It's £3 for a day ticket now. This is still amazing, considerin it's £6.30 return from Cupar to St Andrews. Without going into savers tickets and what not (which are a very big commitment, and only save you about half the fare), at a daily weekday commuter price of £126 in a four week month and £157...

Re: Digital Economy Bill

As far as I'm aware, there has only been one recent (or perhaps even ever) high profile case regarding data storage on members of the public not suspected of committing a crime, to solve crimes, which concerns the Human Rights Act. Feel free to enlighten me if not...

Digital Economy Bill

Anyone who uses the internet and is entitled to vote (that probably means you) should be very concerned by this bill. After reading the Bill here or an outline of it here I suggest you write to your local MP to ask them to oppose it. There is a petition here . The e-mail I have written to various MP...

Re: Connecting to Eduroam

The only thing you have to install is the certificate. (Assuming you have WPA2 Enterprise, otherwise you'll need this too). This is so as you can encrypt/decrypt secure data. The other thing you install is just a program which defines the settings required to connect. I recommend you do this. If not...

Re: A tax on grief? Can we change this?

94% of estates don't pay inheritance tax. The ones that do can clearly afford to. Many of these families can't realistically afford the tax, as their wealth is tied up in their own property - which is usually heavily mortgaged. This results in the sale of many families' houses: I have personally wi...

Re: Cannabis row drugs adviser sacked

Some common sense from Matthew Parris writing in last weeks' Spectator: As Red Celt points out, the analogy is ridiculous. A suitable similar analogy would be your accountant giving you advice, you deciding not to listen, then for the accountant to post this general advice (not regarding your accou...

Re: G20 Protests

the old truism: "If you're under 30 and conservative you have no heart, if you're over 30 and liberal you have no brain." A truism is, by definition, true. That quote is not. A Truism is something that is widely held to be true, irrespective of the actualité. I ignore your point, and any ...

Re: Any banned raisin receipts?

Disposable raisin receipts seem to be a pretty new phenomenon. When I was given mine it was on the understanding that I'd keep it as a momento for the rest of my life. Why have something that you are just going to chuck in the bin?

Re: Lost USB - with my dissertation on it!

Stand on one leg, cover your face in soot, put half a handkerchief in your mouth, jump up and down and stick your hand out waiting for the USB key.

It's a million to one shot, but it just might work. *

* million to one chances always crop up just when you need them most.

Good Luck!

Guardbridge Fire

Did anyone else see the massive plume, topped by a cloud, of smoke over Guardbridge this morning?

Anyone know what caused it? The entire town, including a good portion of the surrounding fields were enveloped by it.

Re: Live TV streaming

How can "98%-100%" of couples in the study have no HIV transmission with an HIV partner? The text said "studies" which, I assume, meant that they were reporting the results of more than one study. If one study reported 98% and another reported 100% it is reasonable to use the wo...

Re: Live TV streaming

The data presented in the HIV transmission rate article above is strange. How can "98%-100%" of couples in the study have no HIV transmission with an HIV partner? Surely it's either, 98%, 99%, or 100%. I mean, it's a simple calculation that can only produce one distinct answer: Couples who...

Re: Live TV streaming

Child abuse is not exactly unique to institutions of the Catholic Church as this blog article demonstrates: http://the-hermeneutic-of-continuity.blogspot.com/2009/11/selective-reporting-on-child-abuse.html Do they also teach that two wrongs make a right? We can ignore the child abuse issue, since o...

Re: 19 year old student falls to his death on the scores

I concur. In this instance, however, there seems to be a spot on The Scores which is a magnet for accidental deaths. I can't picture the spot (only walked along where I *think* it happened a couple of times) but I'm assuming that whatever was done in the past to improve safety - well, it seems not ...

Re: 54% of Britons admit to being morons

To suggest that anyone who doesn't take the whole Bible literally is ridiculous. You might want to amend this 'sentence'. ;) Some, possibly humorous, options for you: To suggest that anyone doesn't take the whole Bible literally is ridiculous. Anyone who doesn't take the whole Bible literally is ri...
