Re: A tax on grief? Can we change this?

Mr for Mister is a contraction. It's not an abbreviation. Jesus Fucking Christ. It is both . No, it is not. An abbreviation is the initial letter of a word or is formed from the initial letters of several words. A contraction is formed from the omission of internal letters. Go and buy a decent book...

Re: Any banned raisin receipts?

Spike wrote:You could always give 2 raisin reciepts. One to dispose of at the foam fight and another to cherish.

Indeed. That is what used to happen. Academic children would be given something embarrassing or cumbersome for Raisin Monday, but would be later given a 'nice' papery receipt.

Re: The renaissance of the gown

PS: Bobbles appeared on the scene in the 1970s, when the local supplier bowed out and Joshua Taylor in Cambridge took over, who was then gobbled up by Ede & Ravenscroft. They are neither traditional nor desirable. Another problem is the colour, which has been erring on the orangy side of things...

Re: Rasin Weekend

http://www.yourunion.net/raisin If you can get around the shit attempt at humour and poor writing style that webpage should tell you a few things. The trouble is that much of what the author of those webpages is telling people is plainly wrong. For example, the author claims that fourth years (or p...

Re: 19 year old student falls to his death on the scores

I think that's an old photograph. Probably from the last time someone thought climbing over a barrier at the top of a cliff was a good idea. I don't see what else could be done to prevent similar accidents in the future. You'll always get drunken students will doing something foolish. If they're not...

Re: POSTGRAD ELECTIONS - TOMORROW

There was a room in the Union just for postgraduates to use, but they never used it.

Re: Small oversight on the union website

What you mean is that you don't care. And if you don't care, why did you take the time to write a reply. In fact, why did you even read a thread that so obviously is of no interest to you?

Re: What is the Deal with Hennessy?

My definition of "stalkerish" may need updating, but don't stalkers already know the ins and outs of their chosen obsession's life by following them, going through their bins, stealing their post, and engaging in other wholesome information gathering activities?

Re: Union entry for non-students?

I just went to the general office, gave them money and a photo, showed my matric card and they gave me a life membership. They're shoddy things anyway - if i'm paying £10 you'd think the least they could do is print off a real card that doesn't look like i put it together at home :P Ah well. The Ca...

Re: Union entry for non-students?

To get Life Membership, they would have to go to the Cash Office as well though. And prove they were a graduate.

It's hardly the most sensible idea though, is it? Where would these students live? Where would they be taught? Who would teach them?

For a self-professed pedant, your language is oddly vague. Yes, there is a campus. There are many of them, in fact. There may not be a campus, as such, in St Andrews, but that is not what you said.

Re: Freshmen 2009

There's nothing wrong with "first year", but anything else - that isn't "bejant" or "bejantine" - should not be used. Yes, people don't use the traditional words as much as they did. New students don't know any better. The only way to get them to do so is to remind peop...

What should they have shown? The dismembered bodies?

Amazingly some SNP supporters believe this a Labour conspiracy to screw up the SNP.
