Quoting BasilSeal from 06:33, 20th Apr 2006 Who got the DLitt? The last earned D.Litt., to the best of my knowledge, was Prof. Elizabeth Craik, an associate of the School of Classics. She submitted books and papers published over the course of a scholarly career of 30+ years. [hr] http://www.ralphc...

You disappoint me - I was hoping to be reminded of some names I haven't thought of for years! Mr Wilson did that when he was up for General Council at the weekend - I had quite forgotten that Miss Cernadas served as interrim Father of the House many moons ago. Oh how we laughed. Re:

Quoting TC from 17:34, 13th Apr 2006 Finally who are these "lots of people" who won IV competitions without training? lets have "lots" of names and examples. I have a sinking suspicion that you'll not recognize a single name on the list that's about to hurtle your way through cyber-space. While suc...

Quoting exnihilo from 17:01, 12th Apr 2006 Earned. Jim Douglas MA. Indeed it was earned - was it not M.A. (Hons)? I don't remember off the top of my head whether the evening degree yields a general... Amusing trivia, for me anyway: the Beadle and I received our degrees at the same ceremony, along w...

Re:

Quoting J.C.H. from 11:11, 10th Apr 2006 £ 120! Is this a quotation from the Edinburgh branch? The last time I checked, squares were £ 30 at most and velvet doctors' bonnets used to be £ 80. I shudder to think what the price is now! I don't have the receipts anywhere to hand, but I'm pretty darned ...

Quoting Dickie from 11:52, 10th Apr 2006 Quoting exnihilo from 11:48, 10th Apr 2006 However, back to the formal dress. What do you sugest I wear? Easy! Crap off of eBay. Internet auction your way to class. Start off with the big ticket items such as morning dress, then add a pocket watch and a chai...

Some events require a black tie when they say black tie.

So blue velvet is out of the question?

To the original poster

Contact the Alumni Relations office - they'd be more helpful than regular biology staff in terms of tracing alumni. While they'll not be able to give you the names and contact details outright, they ought to be able to contact them on your behalf, as it's one of the services which they provide. Alum...

I don't think that anyone has actually expressed any hoping or desire for the position. I think it's more a curiousity than anything else.

I know, but I think these things are traditionally kept under wraps.

I didn't know I had been chosen until Peter sprung it on me at a Debate (David Bean's indiscretion notwithstanding).

Re:

I really don't have much interest in playing a game which, in addition to being overpriced, is largely centered around somebody else's experience of this University, I'm afraid. I'm curious as to why people think of the graduate tie as being a "more formal" neckwear option. I think it's quite a joll...
