Re:

Don't know who was responsible for it. But on a related note, the name of the society comes from it. We had just finished watching Project A-Ko and we had a meeting after the anime. On the agenda was what to call the society. Up to that point, we'd been calling it the Anime Society, but we figured w...

Re:

I'm hesitant to purchase the DVD because of the fact that there are so many different versions floating around. I don't know how good the US domestic DVD is, compared with with I've seen (Japanese DVD). The cover art to the American version is so weak , too. I much prefer the Japanese and HK covers....

Re:

I actually liked the sepia tones and the cinematography.

The 'slowness' reminded me of Tarkovsky's films which are deliberately slow, but still manage to be interesting.

Re:

Hellsing is overrated. Alucard, Integral, and Selas were all interesting characters. The series could have done so much more with them. Alucard was about the only one that they dealt with in enough depth for my tastes. I really would have liked to have seen more character building and delving into ...

Rurouni Kenshin

I was talking to my friend earlier today about Rurouni Kenshin. Apparently I should have seen the TV series PRIOR to watching OAV 1, because the entire story is much more fulfilling if viewed in the following order: RK TV Eps. 1-95 RK Movie RK OAV1 RK OAV 2 *sigh* I hate it when I watch things out o...

Re:

I actually sort of fell asleep when I saw Metropolis as the story was a little bit lacking. But the CGI/cel animation was amazing.

Rintaro-san actually said that Metropolis was influenced by Frtiz Lang's Metropolis, but it wasn't based upon it.

Also speaking as a former society President, I think that the lending library needs updating. Fair enough if you've shown recent anime series that belong to others, but at the very least there should be significant additions to the library each year. Infrastructure is important to every society, and...

PA Lending Library - New Anime Suggestions

I looked on the website, out of curiosity, to see what you all have got in the library. The series there are a few years old, with very few recent ones. What series is the committee looking to purchase at the moment? Some of the current series that are good/hyped (but which I don't necessarily know ...

Rintaro

On Friday 6th February, I attended a lecture at the Japanese Information and Cultural Centre (in Washington, DC). Rintaro, a veteran anime director, gave the talk. It was very interesting to hear Rintaro-san's perspective on the anime industry. He directed the first anime TV series in Japan, Astrobo...

If you know anything about Miyazaki, then you know that he's all about the environment. I mean come on, his first major anime film (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind) basically had the same themes - war, destruction of the environment, live at one with nature. It was the same with PomPoko, Totoro, ...
