Due to 'stupid' politics, I would suggest that you look to LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice. The powers that be sort of shanked OpenOffice, and an amazing group of people forked the OpenOffice project to improve the application considerably! This fork is what we now know as LibreOffice, and as I said is much better than OpenOffice.

I'd second this opinion, although OpenOffice is still perfectly fine. It is less likely to be as well maintained though.
