You will need to provide your own operating system (and license), if you are a student then you should be able to get Windows for free through Microsoft Dreamspark. It will take Windows 7 just fine.

This has served me very well since around 2010 or so. It is a good alternative to the ChromeBook. Bought from a leasing company, though I have since replaced the battery, keyboard and screen; in perfect working order apart from a small crack in the screen bezel.
