If they're at another university, they might be able to get in if our union has an agreement with theirs (check the list next to the porters office at the main entrance) or if they don't, you can sign them in (2 at a time, i think) before the general office closes on the day you want to get them in, costing 50p (or £1 at weekends, i think)

what are the chances of admission if, hypothetically speaking of course, you are a st andrews graduate who was too tight-fisted to shell out for life membership on leaving fife and you are now coming up in a few weeks with mates in tow?

Is there any possibility of getting in (Friday/Saturday)?

Getting a life membership is the easiest way of getting into the Union if you've graduated. Secondly, you can get a current member to sign you in for the weekend (remember to do it before 4:30 on Friday afternoon from the General Offiice).
Members can sign in two people so even if one person gets a life membership, there's three of you sorted.
If you're a student at another university and we have a reciprical agreement with that union, you're entitled to all of the services just like our students are.
Any other questions can go to doserv@st-and.ac.uk.

If it was "summer" and the garden was open, you could sneak into the garden the back way and then into the Union.

Matric cards at any other Uni double as NUS cards thus all other unions let any student with an NUS card....its seems only St Andrews cards are not NUS...tut tut...

No they do not. And the Union is not alone in being unaffiliated with the NUS.

tut tut?

Would you rather our Students' Association frittered away £20,000 on affiliation fees for the NUS?

Or perhaps our current annual fee of £300 for affiliation to CHESS is more acceptable?

And only £27/year for affiliation to Northern Services (our purchasing group) is a bargain!

I wish someone would post the prices for drinks and so on, and range that NUS offer against Northern Services - it's probably true that Northern Services are better value but I'd like to see the differences.

Anyone got a link/can be arsed telling me/have a link for Northern Services pricing?

I believe that negotiations are commercially confident.
However, I can assure you that the retrospective we get back from Northern Services, when taking into consideration that we pay only £27 to be part of the group, is FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR better than the pittance of a retrospective we'd get with the NUSServicesLimited group where we'd have to pay over £20,000 (that figure was from when we had 2,000 fewer students) to be part of.
We can sell at a lower price with Northern Services because we know the retrospective discount will work out better than NUSSL's.
By the way, most (if not all by the sounds of it) people who work for a NUSSL union want to leave NUSSL because it is that much financially unjustifiable.
