Job with the union?

Postby Guest on Sun Jun 18, 2006 7:38 pm

Hi! I will be a first year at St. Andrews and am from the US. I was wondering, is it hard to get a part time job with the union? (Especially since I am a first year?) If not, is it hard to get a part time job at St. Andrews in general (retail would be my first choice, waiting tables would be my second)? I would really like to only work up to 12 hours, would that make it harder for me to find a job? Thank you so much for your help!!

i think that there is usually a bit of work avaliable at the start of the year.

1. Bar staff
2. Door staff
3. Catering (beatons inside the union)

as far as i am aware there should be spaces in all of those roles, just ask at the front desk for an application form

They'll probs have spaces for cleaners too, tho that requires getting up quite early in the morning :-P

It's this thing i discovered when i started working in halls this summer. They actually expect me to be awake and ready to work as early as 7.30 (even 5.30 one morning).

It's a strange time when no one else is around and the seagulls rule the roads.

I always thought that was, technically speaking, the time Bruce tries to get rid of us when we're derigging an event. Not really heard of any other sort of "morning" - except of course in freshers week when my dad decided to phone me at 7am when I was hungover. That was fun. :P

Worth putting in an application form for the union - my mate and I did and I got bar work, she got general office and then shopwork in BESS off the one form!

Can the application forms be downloaded off the Internet by any chance? I don't intend to go back to St. Andrews any time in the summer, and I'd quite like to fill one out.

Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

If you go to the union website, you'll find that you can ;-)
