1) Replace half of the permanent staff,
2) Scrap half of the student officers,
3) Spend some of the "cash reserve".

1) Hoegarden on tap (not that I have anything against the bottles, I'd just rather have a whole pint).
2) Repair the light-guns on the time-crisis machine.
3) A decent air conditioning system in venue 2

It is useful to have somewhere to put all this shiny stuff everyone wants though, something that the investment income helps towards. I doubt that the students would be prepared to make up the difference via their intra-bop thirstquenching.

Thanks. But I didn't want to be told off again for using superior knowledge to win an argument.

Not sure I follow the point. Capital expenditure is made from the operating budget of the Association, before money is put into the cash reserve, that's surplus.

Thats the issue, there is no surplus in the operating budget from one year to the next, one of the things helping with that is the income on the investment fund. Spend the fund and that income stream vanishes, and the equipment purchased will NOT generate enough of an increase in interest and takings to make up for that. If the only place that students bought alcohol was the union there'd be a chance, but not the way things are at the moment. I don't have the numbers myself, but it would be interesting to see the last time that the union generated enough income to actually add money to the investment fund.
