What is going on socially at St. Andrews?

Would anyone be kind enough to give me an idea of what goes on? Have heard you need ball gowns every weekend! Can this be true? Surely there are lots of nice people who like to dance and have fun without necessarily dressing up to the nines all the time?

Of course you don't need ball gowns every weekend. A lot of the societies have balls throughout the year... you don't need to go to them all though! And yes... we can go out and have a good time without ball gowns etc! Honest!

Well, there is plenty to do socially in St. Andrews, but I should point out that if you like dancing, there's only the Union or sometimes the Westport has good bands in to play - and drunken dancing inevitably occurs. Places to go dancing are few and far between. But if you are looking for somewhere to go dancing regularly - there's always Dundee....
