webmail problems?

Postby Zen on Sat Nov 20, 2004 5:05 pm

Is anyone else having problems logging into their webmail account? Everytime i fill in my details and click submit i get redirected back to the front page and told i have to log in again because my session has expired. Is anyone else having similar problems or am i totally alone on this one?

Quite a few of my friends and I are getting the same thing.

If you log in in a way other than using the web page it seems fine.

so it's not just me. makes me feel better.

most PCs with windows have telnet somewhere on there. do a search for it, and then you can get in that way.

type
"O"
return
""
return
""
return
""
return
"setup pine"
return
"pine"
return
"i"

I still have no idea what telnet is, but it's a miracle. Thank you Cain. thank you.

Yes, I have to admit that Cain's advice was significantly more complete than my own!

Thanks for the help! I'm trying to access WebMail through telnet, but whenever I get to the part where I type (my server), this message comes up:

Could not open connection to host, on port 23: connect failed

Any ideas?

try edge.st-and.ac.uk but has telnet access not been stopped anyway? In that case you'll either need to use putty in a pc classroom somewhere or if you have windows, download it yourself from here:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgta ... nload.html
(scroll down to "For Windows 95,..." and click on putty.exe).
Run this program, leave everything as it is, except for the host name, change that to edge.st-and.ac.uk and then click "open" and then "yes". Follow the instructions as cain said and you should be fine!

When I use telnet it tells me that I have new messages but then when I type 'I' to try and get in, I get command not found.

Eudora

Postby kezziecats on Sun Nov 21, 2004 3:04 pm

I find eudora is much easier to use, just install it, then put your domain name in as:
bute.st-andrwes.ac.uk
(change bute depending on server)
then put in your login name
Is much easier to navigate than telnet

Or if you'd prefer to use a web-based client, go to http://www.mailreader.com
Click on "secure (finland)"

Enter your username, password and mailserver (eg edge.st-and.ac.uk)

You have webmail access!

I can't access any of the IT services pages - or the online application forms to update my resnet connection. That's such a pain cos according to the webpage the form should be working but it's not...stupid stupid.....

And I can't get into webmail either..is it certain servers that are down or is everyone affected?

It's the webmail webpage itself.

To clarify, "webmail" is just a means to access your email account.

See the above posts for more information on alternative means to check your email.

Yeh I have checked my email using the way u have shown already - had nothing exciting in there!!

But it's just a pain when I'm used to reading my mail one way but then have to find another way (I'm lazy)

Oh, slightly off the topic here - I read somewhere that from April next year we will no longer be able to read our hotmail using outlook express/outlook unless you have a premium hotmail account - does anyone know if that's true?

If so then can anyone recommend an way for me to be able to collect my hotmail, uni email and yahoo in one programme?
