Well, in that case, you'd better give it them!

I'll see you in the morning.

IT Services want to know what students think about the services they provide.

As part of this, they've asked me to get some students together to pilot a survey they will be running soon. If you are interested in helping, please come to the main bar in the Students' Association at about 10.30 tomorrow morning.

What if we aren't currently in St Andrews? Is this a large conspiracy to esnure those from halls can't moan about computer labs or the unhelpfulness of staff?

LOL, tell them that what they really need to do is to allow students to keep their email accounts after they graduate :)

If there's majority support for it...oh, yes there is as I recall...small matter of a referendum?

On another note...

The meeting with ITS this morning went pretty well.

As often happens with these sorts of focus groups, matters are raised which the people involved weren't aware of, and issues (such as the printer in Gatty) were brought up.

We gave our feedback on the questionnaire that they intend to release, and hopefully this will help towards the final version.

The general consensus was that the meeting was worthwhile, offered differing points of view about all aspects of IT Services, and that a regular focus group meeting would be beneficial to both ITS and students.

Did anyone mention the atrocious server security? Anyone with shell access to their home directory is reccommended to "chmod 700 ." it as soon as they can. It really shouldn't be possible to read files in someone elses home directory.

The impression my dealings with ITS have left is of a collection of people both overworked and under-resourced. Better build another conference venue to solve the problem!
