No there is not, nearest Barclays according to their website, is Edinburgh, Aberdeen or Glasgow. I think they also own The Woolwich, in which case there is a branch, in Dundee. The only banks I know of in St Andrews are Halifax Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland, Clydesdale, Abbey, Lloyds TSB, and the Dunfirmline Building Society.

Is that an Abbey opposite Tesco?

Jesus, for four years I've been calling it a Natwest...

So someone asked me "What is it you do?". I thought about it for a minute. Then I thought about it a little more. All the while I probably looked like I was staring in to space, struggling for an answer. And I was. There was only one response I could really give.

"I make sure the shit stays off the fan."

What about the Bank of Ireland? Where's the nearest if there isn't one in St Andrews?

And no Bank of England???

Bank Of Ireland, Bank Of England. You realise that St. Andrews is in Scotland and as such there are no branches of the above banks...

St Andrews is just too small to have one.

Actually there are Bank of Ireland branches in Scotland...just like there are Royal Bank of Scotland branches in England

Bank of England (as far as I know) is not a 'consumer' bank, if that makes any sense at all. I'm sure somebody else can explain this better.

there's a branch of the former in both glasgow and edinburgh by all accounts.

i am not convinced that the bank of england is about to start opening high street branches...
