every day i listen to radio1 for the news- going down to the tv room and asking someone to change it to bbc news 24 is too much hassle- anyway, every day it sounds like a new person has been shot and in alot of cases killed. im not sure how many people hav bn targeted so far but who ever this is i hope they are caught soon- they are seriously sick! they must be trained tho cause evryone so far has only bn shot with one bullet...

The thing that annoys me about Radio 1's news slots is that they don't leave a pause between stories.

And the newsreaders go so fast that they quickly become out of breath and have to gasp for oxygen in between sentences.

Why can't they take just a little more time to read the news? What's the point of actually announcing what's going on in the world if they don't give their audience chance to absorb what they're saying?

And furthermore - what's the deal with the music in the background? Why does the news need accompaniment?

Perhaps their speed is somehow linked to what they think is the typical concentration span of the average Radio 1 listener. Just a thought.

I hardly think that you should be lambasting a mindless channel such as the hopelessly populist Radio 1 for something as trivial as its "news".

Out of interest...

Does anyone remeber an episode of "Homicide: Life on the Streets" where a sniper killed people sl he could try and solve a hangman puzzel?

I'm actually from Washington D.C. and the media are making this issue into a circus. I know all the after-school activities at schools in the area as well as many local events were cancelled in the wake of these shootings.

By the way, I'm going to be attending St. Andrews in the Spring. Do you guys have any recommendations or advice? Thanks!

Why should people from a foreign country want to, or even be able to, sign a petition calling for the death penalty? Besides the fact that the men have not yet been tried, let alone convicted, since when did some US jurisdictions ever hesitate to put people to death? And weren't the majority of murders committed in a state that does not have the death penalty?

Yes but Alabama is saying that the people involved killed in their state first - hence they prosecute the case and get to eat them once they've been fried.
