I agree. i don't know what all the fuss is about- alternative angst ridden kids are never short in numbers: why are some people saying they think this shop will fall flat on its arse.

it will probably do really well. surely rocksoc and deviant noise guys are gonna love it. ?

Some of 'the fuss' of which you speak is generated by people who are supportive to the idea of such a shop opening in st andrews.

And you honestly mean to tell me you are not in the slightest bit sceptical as to how successful this enterprise will be? Don't mean to piss on anyone's parade, indeed good luck to it, but I have my doubts. :)

I don't understand your post ewan. Our christmas shop has traded here all year long for many years but you use it as an example as why a specialist shop cannot survive? :S

I don't think he's referring to the Christmas Shop, just generic shops that appear at Christmas time. Not that I've ever seen one anywhere mind, let alone St Andrews.

I'm a little pea... I love the sky and the trees.

There's a shop in the town where I went to school, Biggar, called The Christmas Box. It's been there at least 5 years that I can remember and is still going strong.

I've read through this and I'm not 100% convinced that it's not some sort of wind up. There's nothing in the Nominet info to suggest those two companies are connected to one another in any way, they could simply have been Googled for. Also, for someone who claims to have done market research, there's a lot of odd questions being asked (platinum belt buckles?) and, with due respect to the other posters, there's a few names popping up that I've come to associate with less than serious/honest postings.

We shall see, but I'm skeptical.

I'm still of the same thinking too exniliho. An easy-ish way of finding out would be to check the webite of the letting agents for Semi Chem's old unit, but I'm fairly sure it will be a Phones4U

Have to say I'm not convinced, even more so though by the blatantly severe LACK of research. Business and financial sense would dictate that questions such as When doesa uni close for summer? What shops of similar taste are in St.A right now, and what kind of music would you like to see in the shop are things that should be found out way before any premise is purchased/let. I would have also suggested an online venture would be a far more economical first step to establish presence and not have stock tied up on storage as it appears to be right now. Its certainly alot easier to set up an online mail order business than a fully fledged, staffed, store on St.Andrews high street.

I'd also like to see what the city council said on this shop being granted permission, I mean they wont even allow a McDonald's!!

Just an afterthought but again these questions being asked are really the fundamentals that would have to be answered in any viable business plan, both the council and any bank wouldn't look twice otherwise

...but hey what do I know I'm just a business conculstant...

there are a few shops in this town that confuse me, insomuch as i can't really understand how they make enough cash.

'Susan sloan'- opposite Westport

yes, that 'Christmas shop'.

That original health food shop, now more than ever.

I'm not really sure if i agree with the conspiracy theories attached to this thread, but i do kind of wonder whether there are going to be enough goths to keep one shop in profit!

Oh Ewan Husami you're so funny... Happy now?! :P

The Christmas Shop survives because American tourists think it's "cute", plus it's majorly over priced.

I don't think the American golfer tourists will be that overly keen on this... We'll see though.

Either way, I wish this place had been here at Haloween, because it would have made getting my Undertaker costume together a heck of a lot easier!

Why would you want to waste a nice piece of platinum on a belt-buckle - for the money, who would notice?

i just looked at the silveinclothing website, and there is a link to kathmandu uk website. i dunno, is it so unbelievable to think that a goth shop might be coming here- in fact why does anyone care? why do i care? do i?

is goth stuff and skater stuff similar?/does it overlap? cos i used to live in a very small town called elgin, and at one point there were three, if not four skate/urban shops- and they all seemed to do ok.

There's nothing in the Community Council minutes about a new shop or planning permission for signage etc. But then there's nothing pertaining to Phones4U either.

It kind of depends. I wouldn't say no, anyway.

I mean, most of my "goth stuff" is actually various black bits and peices I've found in random shops - Premark, Marks and Spencers, Matalan, H&M, New Look and Dorothy Perkins included. In there is the occassional piece of Dark Star by Jordash I've scraped up the cash to buy in Dundee.

Someone else can wear bits of my clothing and look normal. Just when I put it all together I look goth.

And I still gave my parents a headache with that...

no idea,

you can scrape together "rock clothing" from various places, even the more obscure shops, like Ann Summers

i think this shop could happen- i mean why not? it might not last very long but i think we should give it time and see if it does open, and if it is any good. i like the sound of the goods they might be selling- it will make a change.

I agree entirely - if you ask me it's a wind up involving Big X, Gringo, Dirac, tg and possibly others - they're a bunch of friends aren't they? This thread does make me laugh though, simply because so many people appear to be taking it seriously.
