errrm power metal stuff, emo, metal, metalcore hardcore, punk, you get the idea....

See thats what I need in this town, somewhere that has nice selection of the various rock genres.
Though saying that, won't be here much longer. Would be nice anyway (assuming that this is legit, the seeds of doubt have been planted on this thread).

Agreed 100% I'm sick of having to travel to Edinburgh/Dundee etc every time I want to go music shopping. Of course there's always online, but there you go.

Why do I get the feeling that this just isn't legit?

Is there a website or something for this place?

Sorry if I'm wrong, but I'd just like to find out more.

Okay, that last post makes me even more suspicious. Anytime there is that much enthusiasm and exclamation marks in one post...

Saying that, if it is real it wouldn't be a bad idea and I'd probably poke around it.

I seriously can't believe that this 'Mark' guy, and the idea of the shop actually is real. Firstly, the market for such a shop is tiny, and the shop rents and so on are extremely high in St Andrews, I've done a fair bit of research on this.

Unless this person can post some conclusive proof, I'm not believing it. I personally feel that the Phones4U shop is a much more reliable source.

Hi again BigX, thanks for the chat earlier. (what interesting views you have too ;-) )As he says i was poking around town today. You may have seen me (short, stocky, piercings galore). Good to get so much feedback. For the record we are just getting our stock ready which is currently in holdings awaiting our opening here. We will be getting ATTICUS clothing in for sure (cant rememeber your name who asked, Mohican?). I'm pretty excited about all the CD's too, as i have seen for myself there are enough people around this town with a good taste in clothes and music. We will also be stocking ETNIES shoes, aswell as the usual VANS and DC attire.

Thanks again guys

Oh noes...

Do you have, like, a website url or something? Google just picks up horror movies and rock music (and as much as I love both those things, they ain't shops)

Hi guys,

it's really great to see so much interest being taken in my shop. I had no idea this was such an active forum. These last few weeks have been very busy, and setting up a website has not been on top of the priority list. However, for the past few years i have been based in the north of england running two companies concurrenlty. 1 is called Kathmandu UK, and the other, which is predominanlty an internet store called silveinclothing.

if you want to have a look at the kind of kit i'll be selling then please don't hesisate to visit the webistes of these sister companies-silveinclothing.co.uk is probably the best one to look at.

The suplliers will be the same in the main, once i'm fully settled on what to fill out the shop with.
I'm dealing with a lot of needless redtape right now, but hope to be up and running by mid June- when does term finish at St Andrews University?

http://www.kathmanduonline.co.uk/

this is the other store this guy runs so i'm going to assume this one is similiar. i really can't see it lasting very long in st andrews to be honest. there are plenty of shops like this in liverpool, manchester and newcastle (where this shop is based i think) in places like afflecks palace etc, but i really don't think there's that much call for it here. at least not enough to keep it going for a long time. jack wills is much more likely to succeed - just look at how many yahs and preppy yanks we have here!

The uni closes at the end of May, so most people won't be here when you open shop. You might get some trade off the tourists/Madras kids.

Where are your London stalls, so we can check out your kit down here?

Hmm, I'm unsure about this. I can see it being popular with a lot of the school kids, like Dangles is, but I'm not so sure about the student population. Mind you, between the school kids and the students who would be interested, it could just survive. Hell it could survive on schoolkids alone actually.

It sounds like the kind of shop I would wander in occasionally, for the music and accessory type stuff. Will there be jewellery and accessories too? Bags, hair dye, band merch, that kind of random thing? I dunno, I'm basing this on being a type of shop like Flip or Ground Control in Edinburgh. But I would probably shop there occasionally.

I'm interested to know what market research was carried out though. Oh, and will there be any jobs going?

I don't think a shop with such speciality stock could ever survive.

I mean take for example those shops that spring up in November and sell Christmas tat. I mean Christmas - it's just a couple of days of celebration each year. How such a specialist shop could continue to trade round the year is beyond me.

I don't understand your post ewan. Our christmas shop has traded here all year long for many years but you use it as an example as why a specialist shop cannot survive? :S

I don't think he's referring to the Christmas Shop, just generic shops that appear at Christmas time. Not that I've ever seen one anywhere mind, let alone St Andrews.

Oh hang on - you mean a specialist shop CAN survive round the year in a small town like St Andrews?

There would also be schoolkids coming in from all over Fife. Bell Baxter is about ten, twenty minutes away (and a couple of quid bus fares when you're under thirteen) and is one of the biggest High Schools in Scotland, and has a decent underlying population of "alternative" kids looking to give their parents a headache...

Going to Dundee in the weekends is a pain in the arse for them too :p

I agree. i don't know what all the fuss is about- alternative angst ridden kids are never short in numbers: why are some people saying they think this shop will fall flat on its arse.

it will probably do really well. surely rocksoc and deviant noise guys are gonna love it. ?
