simply - good beards are good. bad beards are bad.

Queens of the Stone Age or System of a Down beards look silly, but a well kept goatee can be good.

of course, some people suit them and some people do.

so the good or bad problem is answered with "it depends"

As A Beard Wearer

Postby Ben Spiers on Thu Jan 16, 2003 4:40 pm

I think I can say that they are great, especially mine.

When do we get bearded smilies to put with our posts, James?

I object, Nick Oliveri, bald, goateed bassist of QotSA, is the hardest rocking garden gnome in the world. Without his beard he could never be affoarded such a coverted accolade.

On men, good. On women, bad.

But seriously folks, like anything, it depends on the person. Some people suit them, some people don't.

Let's take two lust bunnies du jour as examples:

I think Viggo Mortensen looks bloody awful without his stubble. By way of contrast, Orlando Bloom, looks ridiculous with stubble, but that's 'cos he's a girl.

ALWAYS bad.

Haven't you seen that commercial that they play before movies with the cute girl on the bench changing the world and banning beards? She has it right.

Beards are nasty (think Roald Dahl, The Twits). They remind one of crumbs of week old food. They make you think what horrid thing must be underneath the beard to justify its growth. They are horrid when kissing. They are grossly reminiscent of pubic hair. VERY VERY VERY BAD.

A nice goatee or little bit of stubble CAN look nice ONLY UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES. Not for everyone.

Bla. Beards.
In America they think 100 years is old and in Britain they think 100 miles is far.

beards?!

i agree with Rae, only in some circumstances do they look good. the person involved has to be able to grow a beard in the first place. some people, for example my brothers can't grow beards, it's just grows all patching and would look ridiculous, they would look like mangey!! (mangey= when animals lose their hair in patches)

It seems that the response is generally positive, with a hint of "it depends".

Super.

Why the interest Mr Oli? Are you planning on growing a beard?

There was no planning involved. It's done.

this is a question?

Postby beardedwonder on Fri Jan 17, 2003 2:27 pm

beards are obviously a supreme demonstration of skilled facial hirstuteness. free the beardies from the tyranny of those so scared they shave! there is an excellent article on the beard liberation front here...

(obviously i might be slightly biased on this point)

*blinks* Oli? You have a beard...? I have to see

I'm on the beard side. Some people look bloody awful without them. And when they get shaved off, there's always that lighter area in the chin that's really off-putting.

Beards are not nice. I personally would not date a man if he had facial hair. It just turns me off. I like clean- shaven. Trying to kiss a guy even if he skips a few days of shaving really hurts. I would want kissing to be a pleasurable experience for my girlfriend if I were a guy, so my advice to any guy thinking about growing a beard stands as "don't do it". I'm sutdying for my economics exam so think about it as a cost- benefit analysis. Beards get girls to think of you as a friend (big minus) but you could get the personal benefits you attribute to having a beard (a plus). Not having a beard makes a girl more comfortable getting closer to you. Think of the possibilities that option affords (big plus) but you don't get the satisfaction of having a beard, if you wanted one.(minus)
Oh, and then factor in the opportunity costs of the ime spent shaving every morning.
I'm sorry for that economics crap. I'm tired and going crazy. Anyone for dropping out of university and joining the circus? or the convent? or maybe a convent that is a circus?

As someone who has kissed people with beards, once they get past the stubble-rash stage, they don't hurt at all.

I still think they're cute *winks at Oli*

No beards. They hurt and they're unsightly.

I thought a beard is awful to kiss but it's really not! On the contrary, when kept at the right length it tickles the skin which can be VERY nice! Go Oli!:p
