I'm in second year maths, but i did management in first year, both semesters.
And i have to say that even as not a great student it was piss easy. This almost isn't even a subject in first year.
First semester consists of basically saying stress is bad for a worker, and therefore a stressed worker is bad for the company.
2nd semester includes statistics that you can do on one hand, but which has arts students getting out their calculators to add up 1+1+1+0+0+1+0+1 and complaining that they didn't come to university to do maths (this did actually happen). In actual fact it involves maths that you could learn in a day if the lecturers knew what they were talking about. My tutor (some woman) seemed to have the worst grasp of basic maths like finding means that I've ever seen in an adult who has a degree. I don't know if she was trying (unsuccessfully) to simplify it or something
btw when i say this it may sound like i just found it easy cause i do maths, but seriously, this isn't even maths. Adding numbers and dividing by the total number of numbers is numeracy, not maths. and it doesn't get much more complicated than that.
and 2nd semester also includes working out balance sheets which again can be learnt in one day if you can be bothered.
that's about it. i imagine it gets more interesting later on, but first year is a joke. I know lots of people who didn't do 1st semester but did management 2nd semester on my recommendation cause it was so crap. They went to half the lectures and still did well.
that probably doesn't help, but it's not as far off the truth as you might imagine.
if anyone doing management wants to borrow my second semester notes from last year email me at
gog313@yahoo.co.uk and i'll send you them - it's basically everything you need to know for the whole semester in a few pages. It may take me a week or so to get them from home, but they should be complete.
