sounds like the kid is already out of control

is already facing an expulsion hearing at his school for attempting to hit a police officer assigned to the school last month.

but i suppose the mother should probably take more responsibility of her child rather than to report him to the police... no?

Good intentions, I'm sure, but very lazy parenting...

lazy parenting would be not doing anything.
I would imagine this is sort of a last resort

I spotted that in the BBC's "see also" bit. The title of the article alone is vaguely hilarious.

"The boy's mother, Brandi Ervin, told the Associated Press news agency she had acted to teach her son a lesson.

"He's been going through life doing things... and getting away with it," she said."

And whose fault is that?

Well, if anything, it gives the boy's parents some good material for their Christmas letter!

The mother's name is Brandi.

Brandi with an 'i'.

The kid never stood a chance.

When I was over in the states a last month the Playstation 3 had just come out and all these kids were queuing up out side Wal-Mart overnight. This one chap in the queue got shot several times by some muggers who wanted his cash off him and turned nasty when he didn’t give it to them. Not only did he recover swiftly but he got back to the store about a week later to get his PS3. Now that’s the kind of dedication you need to become a superpower!.

On the subject of how great the US is, does anyone from across the pond watch this show http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maury_(TV_series) It is fucking brilliant and frankly I am considering emigrating just because we don’t seem to have in the UK.

s/Scotland/Glasgow

for the most part, anyway. The violence in Glasgow, iirc, is the reason Scotland came out top.

To go slightly off topic, the article mentions plans to raise the age for buying a non domestic kinfe from 16 to 18. I'm asuming domestic knifes refers to the kitchen type so why not raise the age for them. Surely a knife is a knife and regardless of its actual purpose it could still be used to injure or kill someone. Why stop at non-domestic knives? It strikes me as a waste of time to change a law that won't effectively stop those who want to carry a knife doing so. But then I suppose if they want to carry a knife that much then raising the age limit for buying them to 18 won't do much either.

Stop people under 18 buying kitchen knives: what so people who own their own home and have children can't buy knives to use in their kitchen. That would be great for Scotland, lets stop young parents from cooking.

And yet if you try and have a debate about NED violence and general scuminess the socialists go 'How dare you sterotype the poor wee bairns, they are just victims of their socio-economic enviroment'. An interesting one that. I have plenty of friends from poor socio-economic backgrounds and they never feel the urge to stand outside tescos spitting on people or wave knives at people.

Shame cos minus the NEDs, Scotland is a fab place.

Sorry but that Scottish article. Correct me if I'm wrong but it says Scots are the most likely TO BE assaulted, not TO assult.

I've only scanned the article quickly, but does it actually say the assaults are Scots-on-Scots so to speak? Or does the face that being of Scottish descent make you vulnerable to assault from all corners?
