Don't know where to find this on the Union site but do we have a reciprocal with Lancaster union?

I'm not sure about Lancaster (Think it is) but you can check on the posters at the porters box

I'm pretty sure it's only Manchester that we don't. But yes, I'm as near as 100% sure about Lancaster as I can be.

This might be a handy list to have on the Union website.

And me. Exactly the sort of thing that should be on the website, that it might be found when people are not in St Andrews. Clearly a list still exists, so how hard could it be?

Here we go:

It was slightly hard, as I had to move the information from a Word document to the mildly horrific WYSIWYG editor that the website uses.

Does this list contain all the affiliated Associations? The fact that the Union Debating Society have participated in I'V debating competitions at, according to this list, a union they're not allowed in to, suggests to me that this is but a partial list.

Ahh, but entry to a union is generally given to all entrants (for an IV) for the duration of the tournament.
So this wouldn't impact upon the unions one is allowed into or otherwise.

You'll probably find that it's WORD which makes any copy/pasting horrific. Word manages to include all sorts of nasty markup, in a very messy manner.

Can anyone say why our longest affilations are Aston and Queens Belfast 1980?
does this seem odd to anyone else?

Also, from 1990 I was signing guests into the Union here using my Heriot-Watt card and we didn't affiliate with them 'till 1993!!

I should also point out that this list goes out of date really quickly. Graeme updated it last week, and from tonight it will have about 4 or 5 new names added to it. These include Royal Holloway, Chester and Ulster. This has been on of my 'pet proects' for the year- getting more reciprocals. Never did manage Manchester though!

Just out of interest, why can't we get one with Manchester? It seems strange that it would be in the best interests of both unions. I was in Manchester union only a month ago and the woman on the door let me in no problem.

Good to see that we have a reciprocal with Manchester medical school though.

From e mails I have received today, I think Manchester may be very close. All this thanks to Poker Society...

We didn't have an agreement with Manchester because several years ago they were annoying twats. They only wanted agreements with NUS unions-- it was their way of trying to blackmail us into joining NUS because most of their executive were also in the NUS hierarchy.
But that was when what is now Manchester University was two different universities too. We had an agreement with one but not the other. I don't know whether techinically we've had one ever since their unions became one.
No one bothered to care.

No, dear, that was essentially the point. Try reading it again, it may help.

I'd advocate a UK-wide card, available to any student who could pass a test in basic English. Granted only 1 in 10 would pass and get it, but, hey, life is a learning process full of harsh surprises. No?

It's also due to their unions charging people to join, and they didn't want St Andrews "freeloaders" taking advantages of their paid services for nothing.
