Final Bop - Friday 25th May 2007

Postby box_of_delights on Wed May 16, 2007 2:33 pm

Next Friday's bop will be my last in St Andrews - as it will be for plenty of other people, no doubt. Is there any way we can go about requesting songs for the night - the "text a request" feature hasn't been operating the last few bops I've been to this year.

In case anyone with influence is reading, for old time's sake I would like:

(1) Chesney (obv.)
(2) Barbie Girl - hell it's a bop classic (but leave it til the end when everyone's trashed)
(3) Proclaimers 500 miles (obv.)
(4) Diana Ross Chain Reaction

I wanna leave St Andrews after four years with one of my last memories being the total cheese that should be a good Friday bop.

and
I believe in a thing called love, you couldn't go anywhere in September 2003 without hearing it.

i noticed a lack of The Final Countdown on your list. Surely that's necessary for a good bop as well.

Absolutely, good addition. I'm trying to remember what else was a bop staple in 2003-2004... Toxic by the loveable slut that is Britney?

And in celebration of our Eurovision non-win, can we please have "Flying the Flag" :-)

Is there a bop every day next week except Monday or is this just a scurrilous rumour designed to test me?

I believe you would be correct in believing that. Some of them will be themed too, I believe - I hope I'm not giving too much away when I say one of them may be a foam bop. ;)

Are we talking bathtime foam or packing material foam? I'm fine with either.

Oh, and the song I can't remember the name of by the Rasmus was played in almost every bop in 1st year I seem to recall.

Disco 2000 would also be slightly appropriate.

There should definitely be lots of Eurovision. Certainly, Verka Serduchka's 'Dancing Lasha Tumbai' and possibly the Bop classic 'Dragostea Din Tei' by Ozone.

Yeah it should definitely be a flashback to our Freshers week! Front row Snow Patrol for £5...and I paid £25 in December to be squashed 20 rows from the front with a really bad view!!

Bop classics I remember from those days were Christina - Diirty, Beyonce - Crazy in Love, Proclaimers - 500 miles...actually not much has changed in four years lol!

Oh and remember Pat Sharp and the Tony guy...don't really remember what they actually entertained us with though!!!

Can't believe it will be my last bop ever!! I have been a bop regular for four long years, please make it a good one!

Yeh, Pat Sharpe and Toby Anstis - remember them on stage but likewise I can't remember what music they played. I just remember them dishing out signed photos towards the end of the night.

That was the best night of my life quite possibly. Toby Anstis signed my arm and I got to wear Pat's wig. Memories.....

You went to that bop? Like 400 people went (that may seem like a large number, but it isn't). I just happen to know that that was a not-as-well attended night. I'm surprised so many of you remember it.

Let's see, 03-04 was all about Toxic, Dirrty, The Darkness, The Darkness, The Darkness, 'Dragostea Din Tei' by Ozone didn't come out until right after term ended so that belongs in the Summer of '04 file when it was played several times a night in the havens of St Andrews, the Ketchup Song, The Cheeky Girls/ Cheeky Song, Maroon 5, Kelis with Milkshake, a bit of Cha Cha Slide, was Year 3000 then with McFly? the band broke up by the Sept 2004 so they had to have had a hit before then, the Don't Want You Back song and the answer song from the girls, black eyed peas, Basement JAXX-- I remember that that was big that year, OH! and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, that's who was nagging the back of my mind. I knew there was an obvious one that I was forgetting. Girls Aloud, and tatu, those fake russion lesbians, that sone was everywhere., and U2 came out with something at the very end of term

If I remember somethign else, I'll post.

Find a UK Top 40 chart for each of the past 4 years and you'll be hitting most of the bop songs (even though more songs will be on the chart than were played at the bop because some songs would have been too crap to play)

And I know for a fact that mmmbop made a few appearances in 03-04

chesney was played because he had been in Venue 1 the year before.

in the Ents Crew DJ CD collection, there's a set of three CDs that are white (they even came in their own set box, but that could have been thrown out by now) which also have cheese pictured on the front. Those three CDs were given plenty of exercise is 03-04.

Hell, just find "Now that's what I call music" for the past 4 years and you've got it all made.

I don't know why I felt the need to list these songs and artists, I know how easy it is for Ents Crew to find out for certain what songs have been used for the past 4 years--- hell Graeme probably was the one who pressed Play for the vast majority of times a song was ever played in the bop for the past 5 years.

Are you sure pretty much everyone I know went to that bop? The place was rammed if memory serves me right. Did half the crowd get in without bands

Snow Patrol had about 20 people at it tho.

Other 2003/4 Classics
Lot's of busted year 3000 and what i go to school for.

School's Out has to be played too, surely...

I remember the last bop of term in first year, the last song played was Insomnia, and it was fucking amazing. I love the last bop of the year. This is my last bop ever too though :(
